Smallsat mission integrator and bus producer Kongsberg NanoAvionics (NanoAvionics) has acquired an order for 3 additional satellites from 5G telecoms operator OQ Expertise. They are going to be added to OQ Expertise’s present constellation, turning the corporate into the most important 5G NB-IoT (narrowband Web of issues) satellite tv for pc operator on the planet.

It’s NanoAvionics’s fourth contract with OQ Expertise, having beforehand provided Tiger-2, Tiger-3, and MACSAT missions. By way of the collaboration with NanoAvionics, OQ was capable of launch the world’s first business nanosatellite, Tiger-2 in 2021, that offered 5G protection for IoT gadgets based mostly on NB-IoT and a primary growth of their companies with Tiger-3 in 2022.

As a part of the settlement, OQ Expertise will present the 5G payload, which relies on commonplace 3GPP Rel. 17 expertise – the cell tower stack developed in-house by OQ – and can maintain launch, satellite tv for pc operations, spectrum licensing, service and market entry. With the current traction of direct-to-device mobile communication via satellite tv for pc, OQ Expertise is a pioneer in direct mobile IoT to satellite tv for pc connectivity.

The three 6U nanosatellites, Tiger-4, Tiger-7 and Tiger-8, can be constructed at NanoAvionics’s new MAIT (manufacturing, meeting, integration, and testing) facility in Vilnius, Lithuania. The ability was setup to fulfill the calls for for serial satellite tv for pc manufacturing for constellations and bigger satellites by business, civil, and governmental organisations.

The nanosatellites can be geared up with a propulsion system for constellation deployment, formation flying and deorbiting after the tip of their lifecycle.

Omar Qaise, founder and CEO of OQ Expertise stated: “These three nanosatellites will permit us to develop our constellation, increase our world protection, and enter new markets. Along with pioneering the 5G NB-IoT expertise, it’s via companions like NanoAvionics that we’re years forward of the competitors within the 5G IoT non-terrestrial networks market.”

Vytenis J. Buzas, founder and CEO of NanoAvionics stated: “This newest contract is testomony to the good working relationship we have now constructed with OQ Expertise over the previous couple of years. Our stage of standardisation, automation, and expertise with communications mission permits us to provide prospects like OQ expertise in an environment friendly method.”
